Metformin + weight loss?
I was recently prescribed metformin (glucophage) for insulin resistance. At the time my doctor mentioned that my weight, would start to come down as metformin began to work.
Ive only been using metformin for 2 weeks, can anyone tell me if they actually experienced weight loss after starting Metformin and if so how much and how long after you started using metformin.
I do not know by what mechanism of action Metformin works However, for me, i would feel hungry often, which was an effect of my insulin production/blood sugars being out of whack, and now, i certainly am not feeling that. Does it work in that way, stabilizing insulin producton and thereby blood sugars, eliminating blood sugar level induced "hunger", therefore not eating, thereby losing weight?
sorry...meant to say "overproduction of insulin" not "sluggish"
I should add: i am taking metformin seeming because of the insulin resistance that often accompanies PCOS
additionally, i am taking 1000 mg daily AFTER breakfast and dinner, per doctors orders

PCOS And taking Metformin weight loss?
I was recently informed that I have PCOS (Poly cycstic Ovary Syndrom) And was perscribed birth control and a medication for my high insulin Metformin. I am about 50 lbs over weight, I was told that I would lose a good ammount of weight just from the Metformin (Insulin drug)....Has anyone had such effectiveness from this treatment???
Oh, I know it does not excuse proper eating and exercise. But I don't over eat to begin with. I am not hoping for all the weight to just fall off, but the PCOS is what caused my weight gain to begine with....almost 80 lbs in a year! I have been thin my whole life...I just was hoping that with this new medication, it could be a starting ground for weight loss....I was hoping for about 20lbs....Thats what my indocranologist said....

Taking Metformin/Clomid Question.?
I was just prescribed Metformin today (I have PCOS). On the bottle it says, "take one tablet by mouth every day for 1 week, then 2 tablets every day for 1 week, then 3 tablets every day." When I get up to my two and three tablet days do I take them all at once, or should I space them out throughout the day? Has anyone had any success stories taking Metformin? Weight loss? Pregnancy? Anything? My doctor says she will put me on clomid on the 20th of this month, but she wants to see how I react to the Metformin. I start at 500mg the 1st week, 1000mg the 2nd week, and 1500mg the 3rd week on. Also any success stories with Metformin and clomid? Thanks.
