Macrobiotics: Tips and Advice on Starting a Macrobiotic Diet

It is always not so easy starting out on something that will radically change your lifestyle, most especially when it becomes a part of your regimen. Switching to macrobiotic diet is not that tough. As long as you have the will and determination to do it. Macrobiotics is actually just using our commonsense to eating. Macrobiotics is a sensible alternative to the over processed and devitalized foods that are available in the market and fast foods.

Macrobiotic diet focuses on these balancing acts of intakes. Yin foods, among other things are ones that grow in warm climate, foods that contain more water. While Yang foods are ones that grow in cold climate and are dryer. Remember "Taking all things in moderation"? "Anything excessive or too much is bad"? Macrobiotics is focusing on eliminating unbalanced diet and promoting higher well being, it also teaches us to chew our food completely and eat only when hungry.

Some food that we have gotten used to are strictly prohibited in macrobiotics, because as we say, it is unbalanced in its own way. They are extreme. Either too sweet or too salty, hence junk foods. Foods that you should stay away from are chocolates, candies and soda, refined foods such as white sugar or flour, processed food such as sardines, corned beef, and other canned food, tropical fruits, poultry and dairy products, eggs, butter, caffeinated products specially coffee, and other products that has preservatives in it.

But there are so many benefits of macrobiotics that changing your taste bud preference is worth it. If paired together with exercise, such as yoga, macrobiotic diet can make you lose weight dramatically, because this diet is rich in fiber and low in saturated fat and reduces the risk of diseases that is associated with fats such as heart attacks and strokes, heart diseases and high cholesterol. Although not proven yet, macrobiotics helps and even prevents AIDS and cancer. Of course it's a rule of a thumb that a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle leads to a disease free life, as our body has it's own self heal properties, and all we have to do is to activate our body's immune system to perform well it's duties by cleansing him of all the impurities we fed him in years of our lives.

Macrobiotic diet is not a medicine to cure your onset illness but a lot of illnesses are brought about by wrong diet and excessive intakes of unnecessary food in our body, thereby resulting into branches of different complications and sickness, correcting all of these and switching to a more sensible and balanced diet such as macrobiotic diet and lead a healthy lifestyle together with exercise can surely shun away troubles brought about by modern day diseases. A complete turn around of diet means a complete turn around of illness into wellness. Macrobiotic diet is a way of life.

Is there anyone on Y!A who is macrobiotic?
I was reading a little about macrobiotic dieting on Wikipedia, and I'm wondering if anyone who is macrobiotic could tell me something about how you can eat nothing but grains and raw fruit and vegetables without dying. Seriously, wouldn't you keel over from malnutrition? I know that Gwyneth Paltrow is macrobiotic, and she looks fabulous. But she's the only macrobiotic person on Earth that I'm even remotely familiar with.

Is this a good 8th Grade Research Paper...due tomorrow!?
Yin and Yang: My research paper is on the commonly seen, circular, black and white symbol divided symmetrically known as yin and yang. Many people think of the symbol as nothing more than another ?peace? sign. In actuality, this symbol, yin and yang, reflects ancient Chinese philosophies that represent two conflicting, yet harmonizing energies that keep the world in balance when applied together. When either is used alone, imbalances are created. I have chosen to research on Yin and Yang because I, like many, have little knowledge on the subject (just the basic understanding of the two opposites) and wanted to know more. Through the knowledge I have gained I wish to inform you further on this subject. The history of Yin and Yang dates back many years ago. The first objects that it was known to be inscripted on were animal bones used in special Chinese ceremonies (oracle bones). It described how different objects, seasons, beings, colors, etc., were either more of a Yin energy or more of a Yang. In the first examples of Yin and Yang (unscripted on the oracle bones), it expressed how one side of the hill was Yin and one was Yang. The north side of the hill, represented Yin, due to the fact that it is facing away from the sun and is dark, and the south side of the hill represented Yang, because it would then be facing the sun. They also explained how Yin and Yang worked. Together, they balance the world and keep everything in harmony; this in turn keeps the world peaceful. The circle, in which the ?yin and yang shapes? are formed, represents ?everything? in the world, balancing the two opposites. Yin is quite different than Yang. Yin is the dark/ black side of the circle. It is represented by objects such as the moon, night, water, North, lead, female, even numbers, death, and obviously, the color black. Yin is considered the darker energy. Yang, in contrast, is the white side of the circle. It, unlike Yin, represents light, sun, south, male, odd numbers, day, and life. There are different types of living habits that incorporate the belief of Yin and Yang to enhance balance which allows those individuals to live a harmonious life. Feng Shui, macrobiotic diets, and some Chinese food preparation are some examples of how the use of the same concepts of Yin and Yang can help create a happier and more relaxing life. Feng Shui enhances the balance and harmonious aspect of Yin and Yang. It began about 3,000 years ago in China. This belief of harmony is the use colors, furniture positioning, and items in the rooms of your house to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere for someone to live in (incorporating Yin and Yang guidelines). For example, it teaches that the bedroom should be more of a Yin, a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere (the example of Yin) consisting of colors considered ?skin tones.? These colors are relaxing. Some of these colors include: cocoa, tan, peach, coral, and cream. To ensure that you receive positive energy from these techniques, it suggests that you: keep your room clean, have little electronics present, which you should keep away from where you sleep, that your bed positioning matches up with the Feng Shui chart (certain colors and objects in either the north, south, east, and west position), and have as few mirrors, or none, present in the room. A macrobiotic diet, like the vegetarian diet, is once again, one that allows and excludes certain foods to keep balance and purity in the foods eaten. This diet is very strict, yet not considered vegetarian, (even though there are no meats or dairy allowed), because individuals using the macrobiotic diet will eat some seafood and fish. This diet completely eliminates foods such as oranges and other tropical fruits as well as spices because these foods would contribute too much of the Yin energy at one time. The same goes for dairy and meat products because there is too much Yang within these two food groups. Foods that are allowed in the macrobiotic diet include: whole grain products, fresh vegetables, legumes, and occasionally seafood and fish. In Chinese cooking, Yin and Yang principals are used to keep everything balanced. Texture, color, and flavors are combined in specific ways. Some Yin foods include: carrots, duck, cabbage, and tofu. Whereas, Yang foods include: beef, chicken, eggs, and wine. The foods must be cooked in a special way (i.e. poached, steamed, deep fried, etc.) with the opposite type of food (Yin foods with Yang cooking techniques and vise versa). It is believed that when there are imbalances of Yin and Yang, at any given time, it can result personal disharmony ranging from mood swings to being more prone to illness and disease, to even death. Though a drastic result, death could occur. For example, if someone understanding what disharmony of self these imbalances create, then becomes so paranoid trying to keep things balanced, further imbalances him or herself. Imbalances of Yin and Yang create disharmony umm. I just copied and pasted my report. I was just wondering if it was bad, good, needed something, ect..
