Do High Protein Diets Work Better Than Other Diets?

A high protein, low carbs diet like the Atkins diet is by far the most popular diet. Some people say that carbohydrates are not necessary for people at because the body can obtain all its energy from protein and fats. However, the brain and neurons generally cannot burn fat and need glucose for energy. Do high protein diets work?

A study called A Randomized Trial of a Low-Carbohydrate Diet for Obesity did a controlled trial involving 63 obese men and women who were randomly assigned to either a low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fat diet or a low-calorie, high-carbohydrate, low-fat (conventional) diet. These were the results of this study:

The low-carbohydrate diet produced a greater weight loss (absolute difference, approximately 4 percent) than did the conventional diet for the first six months, but the differences were not significant at one year. The low-carbohydrate diet was associated with a greater improvement in some risk factors for coronary heart disease. Adherence was poor and attrition was high in both groups. Longer and larger studies are required to determine the long-term safety and efficacy of low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fat diets.

As it turns out high protein, low carbs diet is not some kind of a miracle that makes losing weight easy. Carbohydrates are the body's preferred and most efficient energy source. It is very hard to stay on a very low carbohydrate diet for long periods and since high protein, low carbs diet is not significantly better then conventional high carbohydrate, low fat diet, then using this diet is not the best option. There is no strict formula that works for everyone. How much carbohydrates you should eat for optimal fat loss depends a lot on your body type.

The baseline diet of 50-55% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 15-20% fat is without a doubt the healthiest, most balanced way to eat. Eating 5-6 smaller meals a day, counting calories and aerobic exercise are far more important that some magic combination of macronutrient ratio.

Will bench pressing tighten my chest?
Little story here, when I was 13 I was chubby, not obese but chubby. The thing is I had manboobs and at that time I researched and they said if you feel "clumps" inside you may have gynoc-something idk haha.well.. I had those clumps and I felt like my life was over since you could only use surgery to rid of them. Anyways, I started training in Jiu-Jitsu and after 3 months, I noticed a little of allover body fat loss and my moobs.. were smaller. After a year of training in MMA all together by 14, I lost all my body fat and manboobs and had just tiny man pecs because the little clumps were still there.. After about another 3 months of eating healthy and high proteins diets with thick lean meats, those clumps went away too! One problem though. I'm now 15, and have stretch marks right in between my arm pits and shoulder. I asked my instructor if he knew any way of getting rid of them. He said since he doesn't lift weights and purely relies on running up sand hills and pushups for fitness he wouldn't know. So back to the question, what could I do to tighten my chest/shoulder area? Bench pressing? And If yes. How would I go about beginning? I have a bench press set and everything with weights (my uncle's but he's in prison.) and I know to ALWAYS have a spotter. Anyways if not that, how can I tighten that area?

Question about alcohol consumption by someone undergoing dialysis with 2 shot kidneys?
So, Livers filter and eliminates waste meaning that if someone whose kidneys has failed consumes alcohol it won't be filtered and removed? (Until they go through dialysis?) What I remember from my high school biology days is that dialysis is the diffusion of substances across a semi permeable membrane, meaning some things are filtered and others are not, which is why people who undergo dialysis have a high protein diet, because the protein gets filtered out. Does Dialysis filter out the alcohol? (I would assume so base on the fact that it's a pretty large molecule but I'm not sure.) I'm aware that someone with two shot kidneys should not drink, but I want to know more about the process of kidney-less alcohol consumption before I confront said person. - What happens to the alcohol between the time it's consumed and the time said person goes to dialysis? - Does dialysis filter the alcohol? Thank you for your time and consideration.
